Ipad deactivated after entering false login too often

Newbie question: The Ipad is deactivated after entering false login too often. In my JamF dashboard I can issue the "restart" and "wipe" command to the ipad. Suppose the Ipad is within a known Wireless Network, will it "receive" and "execute" the commands? OR do I have to connect the Ipad by cable to a computer and wipe it from there?

From my experience the Clear passcode doens't work when the iPad is locked.

Best thing to do: connect iPad to Mac-device and use "Restore"-option in Apple Configurator. I've tried connecting to network using a LAN-adapter, but it all did not work out and I ended up on restoring the device
