Thanks @Rhinehart ! Looks like the Apple School Manager and Classroom will work for many iPads but some of the features that would be used with Shared iPads will still need the newest devices.

Does anyone know if there are minimum hardware requirements to enroll devices in Apple School Manager? Thanks to @CasperSally for posting the minimum requirements for using Shared iPad.

@St0rMl0rD My understanding is that supervision via DEP was the prerequisite for device-based app assignments. Is the workaround supervising via Apple Configurator 2? Thanks!
