I have a script which does a dscl lookup on the users home directory, creates a new folder, then populates a desktop alias that directs to this new folder. If I run the script manually, it functions as expected. When run via Self Service or policy, the folder is not created and essentially the script fails. If I set the script to run Once Per User, the script does not execute via policy trigger, and does not display in Self Service. If I set the policy to once per computer, the policy executes but the script does not function as expected. Here is the code, although i think it has to do with the way in which the JSS is handling the script.... We use Microsoft Office as our productivity suite, and are having a hard time keeping the clients up to date with Microsoft Office hot fixes/security patches. Microsoft does not use cumulative updates, and requires you install all of the patches in order (So if a machine requires 6 updates, they must all be installed sequentially). Is there a way I can create a single policy that will install all of these in a specific order? If not, can I string multiple policies together and distribute THAT to my source machines? By default, it seems that Mountain Lion directs software updates to the App Store. Although my internal catalogURL is populated in the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist, I am still redirected to the App Store when I run Software Update... Is there an additional plist that needs to be updated? Thanks for any help.

Feeling dumb. Can someone tell me how to snap a disk image that doesn't include free space? I've got an external hard drive that I made a boot image of and I'm trying to snap an image of it so that it can be deployed to other USB devices (thumb drives, hard drives etc) for techs to boot from and image with. The problem is that while it's only using ~7GB of disk, the image is ~20GB because that's how big the partition is that I installed the OS on. When I try and apply the disk image to a 16GB USB thumb drive it says there's not enough space. Follow? Thanks

Hello, I have a user who installed the latest and greatest Logitech mouse on his laptop. The preference pane is greyed out though and the user cannot access the software. I am new to Caspar and would like to allow the user to utilize the software. Any suggestions on how I go about setting this up? I have a freshly created 10.7.4 Netboot Image, created with the specifications here: https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/article.html?id=63 Whenever boot from it, I get "The system was unable to unlock your login keychain" with the options to Continue Log In, Create New Keychain, or Update Keychain Password. Could someone explain why I'm getting this, and how I can fix it so that it doesn't prompt? It kind of defeats the purpose of having Autorun setup... Thanks! --Daniel

We employ Symantec Endpoint Protection v12 and I have created a package using Composer which includes current updates. One additional feature we'd like to include are custom settings for the Symantec Scheduler for periodic product updates and file system scans. Can that be done?

I have had to revert to using the last known good Composer 8.51! Composer 8.6 has a flaw to make unflattened pkgs to install to the top level of the disk. For example iWork 09 preinstalled software pkg creates /ROOt/Snapshots/Settings Etc etc and even does this point and click manually installing the pkg! This is a Major Major flaw and this has happened to me about a dozen times now. Please can you guys stop messing with Composer and just keep it at 8.51! I use this every single day and I have to go through this pain every time a new release happens.

I have about 50 carts of Macbooks I'm trying to image and configure over the summer, one of the steps I wanted to add was a script that loged in the user in and run some scripts. Hello, I am currently trying to create a NetInstall Image for OS X 10.7.4, which will be deployed from a server running 10.6.8. I have already setup a brand new computer to how my company would like to have them setup and I have taken an image of the computer using DiskUtility and Composer. I have attempted to use the NetInstall Image Creator provided by JAMF, but I am still unable to boot from the network with the new MBP's. I have also done the System Image Utility on a 10.7.4 machine, using the Automator Action provided in the Resource Kit by JAMF, still to no avail. Is there any major steps I am missing, or should be aware of before beating my brains out on the desk trying to figure out this issue? When my company first received training with the product, the tech just gave us the NetInstall image. Anyone know of where I could get my hands on one for Lion if I can't create one myself? Does anyone have a good Casper architecture diagram that helps explain the infrastructure & apps interaction to the uninitiated? I was looking through some old Casper documentation and way back in my version 6.0 admin guide there's a great, simple diagram on page 13 (follow along at home, folks). As nice as it is, I'd like to tweak it a bit (e.g. replace Casper VNC with OS X's Screen Sharing) and also include things like MDM that the suite does now, along with labeling ports etc. Don't know if there's something "standard" out there that we all could use. No sense in us all re-inventing the wheel, right? Worst comes to worse, I can re-create page 13 fairly easily and share it out in OmniGraffle format or something.

I am needing to enable DVD/CD sharing on a group of iMacs running 10.6.8 and a group of MacBook Airs running 10.7.4 so the MBAirs can access DVD/CDs on the iMacs remotely. Does anyone have an good way to do that?

I have recently bound a computer to a domain. The original user folder had a _ separating first and last name now the new account crated has a . to separate name. After logging into the new account I moved to original data into the new account. In the new bound account i'm unable to touch in the account received permission denied. I can search and find my lab of machines and then choose "Take Action on Results" and put in the department, building, servers etc but not the room. Seems useful for lab environments.

I'm running into an odd issue I can't figure out with a script I'm working on. You know how you can assign parameters in a policy (or Casper Remote) to $4 through $11 to pass back to the script? Well, it seems anything past $9 does not get properly assigned, no matter what I do or try.I started running into strange behavior with the script and set up a 'debug' version that echoed back the assignments. What I see is that $4 through $9 are perfectly assigned, and $10 $11 echo back as /0 /1. In other words, its ignoring the double digit and using the 0 and 1 last characters from the parameter. This fouls up the script since its assigning bad information into the variables for the script. Does anyone know how to get around this? Is this just a bug in Casper or an issue with bash scripts in general? I've never seen this before because honestly I've never had a need to assign more than one or two parameters in a script, but in this case I want to use all o

Hey JAMFs. I don't get the apps ratings within JSS MDM. This is in profile configuration, restrictions category, under Media tab. What do "4+", "9+", "12+" et c. mean? E.g. does 9+ mean for age 9 and over? I'm looking for something like "4 and under", "9 and under" et c. NOT 9 AND OVER!

I am a little frustrated with Casper because you cant make a smart group ignore another smart group. How are people getting around this to make exemption groups? Dummy packages?

Hi, I am new the Casper and Lion server. I created a 10.6.8 netboot image. I uploaed it to our 10.7.4 Netboot server. When I open the System Image Utility it fails to locate the mounted 10.6.8 dmg file. Message in SIU is "Invalid source volume found". I have read that you cannot share a 10.6.8 image on a 10.7.4 Netboot server. Is this true? Any assistance is appreciated.
