I need a script to either delete last logged on user or delete all users except for local admins (I figured last logged on user was the safest). I do not need to delete the home folder just the user account. I have tried to build the script unsuccessfully due to being new to the Mac OS.

I want to search for computers which have no entry for a given attribute. Is it possible to search for a null value? Is it possible to search with a regular expression?

I need to create a 10.8 net boot image. I have 10.8 clients but I do not have 10.8 server to get the server tools. I saw where someone created it with Composer, but I do not see the option for NBI. Can someone give me some direction? Thanks! Sharla

Hello Everyone, I've updated our school district's software update servers (SUS)in the JSS in the Settings/network segments module of the web interface and have yet to see a client's /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file reflect the sus servername change. Should I be pushing the clients sus out via a policy? Or is specifying it in the network segment all that needs to be done? How can I verify that a client's SUS has updated correctly? Here's one for the boards. I'm pretty stumped on WHAT'S going on, but at least I know at what point I am seeing success/failure? Here it goes: I have a policy that runs a removal script for Microsoft Office 2004/2008, installs Office 2011 14.0, then 14.1, then 14.2.3, then copies several pref files for autoupdate, setupassistant, bladdy blah to users' folders and the user template. The next morning when the user logs in, they open Outlook 2011 and a script runs to auto migrate their Entourage database. Here's the problem: This works like a charm if a user is logged in while the policy runs to uninstall entourage/install office. Outlook can open, data is migrated, everyone is happy. When no one is logged in and the policy runs, outlook will fail to start, asking for a license key (and yes, we do have a site license). Getting an odd thing happening when creating packages in Composer 8.52. The packages (pkg or dmg) contain, and deploy the following directories. ROOTScriptsSettingsSnapshots Like it is packaging the contents of a directory above where it should from the temporary storage. When the package is deployed it will put all of these directories at / so that /Applications/SuperFun.app would be at /ROOT/Applications/SuperFun.app Anyone seen this? Thanks Matt

We have a mixed environment of both tethered enrolled devices as well as OTA. Is it still true that we will need to re-enroll only the tethered devices post iOS 6 upgrade? Or will all iPads and iPhones need to be re-enrolled?

Hi, I'm having problems getting part of a self service policy to work in casper. I have created a self service policy which needs to be limited to specific user accounts, namely staff, student and support staff. We have got ad login working, but whenever i scope a particular policy to a set of user groups e.g. all staff no staff members can see the particular policy. Does anyone have any idea why this is? or where the problem could be happening?

I'm having a terrible time getting my binding package to work. Background info--Clients OS = OSX 10.7.3 Computer Names = Made up of 8 characters 2 alpha and 6 numericDirectory = Microsoft Active DirectoryMethod = Casper Remote, to kick off binding package. I have: 1) Made sure the workstation account exists in the location specified in the Binding package 2) Verified the account I'm using has the proper permissions in order to bind a machine. 3) Attempted to delete and recreate the workstation account. Hi guys I'm setting up configuration profiles for the first time and followed things here to get my jss setup: https://jamfnation.jamfsoftware.com/article.html?id=111 The mdm is showing in Profiles preference pane but the machine in the jss keeps saying MDM Managed: No I tried deleting the machine from the JSS and removing the JAMF framework and running recon again. Has anyone else come across this?

My boss is concerned the service account that the QuickAdd package uses can be hacked. After we collect the machines into the JSS's inventory, we are joining (binding) them to our Active Directory service. He is insistant that the QuickAdd service account is a 'domain account' and not a 'local account'. I am confused a hope you can help me find the words to get him off my back ; -)

In the last week, we're having a high number of Macs catching the spinning ball of death after login. Most of the time they'll see the menu bar before freezing up, sometimes they'll see the dock. I've turned off all login/logout hooks and startup items, but perhaps they haven't gotten the update? The behavior is really strange in that it seems to only exhibit the freezing behavior after a graceful shutdown. After freezing and force shutting down, the next login works. I created a Managed Preference profile to be pushed out to our test macbook pro before we roll them out. I imaged the computer with casper and started up and entered a username into mac setup that created a standard user. Now I would like to push a a managed profile out to the machine and would like to have Managed Preference's. The problem is when I am reading the documentation I see Managing Mac OS X Configuration Profiles. I scoped the user but how to I make it push it out to the user please help!!! Thanks

I'm tinkering and trying to make life easier with scripts. One that would help is the ability to use SHIFT+COMMAND and a keystroke. For my COMMAND only scripts, I'm using something like this: osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to key code {13} using command down' How can I incorporate the SHIFT key into this script? Hey there jamfnation, I've always used MCX to suppress the creation of .DS_Store files on network shares in the past, and I've converted the MCX I used to use to a custom setting in a configuration profile for 10.8, but it does not appear to work- clients ARE creating those files on network shares.running the defaults command in terminal defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true does work, so I'm wondering if I've messed up the translation to a profile in some way.The profile setting i'm using is: Preference Domain: com.apple.desktopservices Key: DSDontWriteNetworkStores Type: String Value: true This is embedded in a device (NOT a user) profile.Anyone have a suggestion for managing this setting on 10.8?

I'm having problems with composer's flat packages. I've always used regular pkg's in the past, but I'm converting to SMB shares for Casper, so I thought I'd start switching over to DMG and flat packages to simplify replication.So, my first test flat package was very simple- Firefox 12. I have an existing source for a old-style pkg for Firefox 12 already in Composer, so I clicked the preference to enable building flat pkg's, and had composer generate a new package. Ran it, and the Firefox app installed to /ROOT/Applications instead of /Applications.So, I created a new firefox package from scratch- dragged firefox from /Applications into the composer window, checked permissions, and built it again . . . same results- the file is installed to /ROOT/Applications.So, just to make sure I'm not insane, I switched the Composer preference back to building old-school pkgs. Generated Firefox's pkg again with no other changes, and it installs to /Ap

Anyone know how to programmatically enable a browser plugin? Our VPN solution requires the Java plugin to be active and upon first launch it's disabled. Due to general Safari behavior, enabling the plugin and restarting Safari can become a less than optimal experience. If the Java plugin were enabled to begin with, it would be great. Thanks
