I added a new category for Printers to Self-Service but now it has placed itself on top of the other other-wisely alphabetically sorted categories. Is there a fix for this? Thanks!

Hi, I have been slaving away getting all of our 200+ iPads into DEP or older iPads supervised and enrolled so I can remotely push app and manage the iPads remotely. I got to a point where I had 90% of the iPads in the JSS pushing apps etc then all of a sudden the majority of iPads DEP and just supervised stopped talking to the JSS. Were not able to receive any inventory updates etc. I had about three config profiles on there for restrictions and a few other things including not allowing the the students to erase all content and settings. Seems as though after I sent those config profiles it happened but honestly it could be something completely different. The only fix I found was to restore them back to factory settings and they reset and retained all the info like device name and because most were DEP the profile was already on there and the apps started pouring back on.. Any ideas!!??

So recently we've had problems with our Trend Micro installs, we used to push (C. Remote or policy) and it worked fine. Now it installs but it can't connect to the server. If I manually install it, it connects fine. Apparently it's not sending a certificate and a server plist file... any reason why it wouldn't come through when pushed through casper anymore?

Does anyone have an extension attribute or some way to report the size of a cached package on all machines? One of our larger packages is reporting as cached successfully on all our machine but when manually checking the size of the file it's way too small on a couple of the machines I've checked but ok on a few others. I would like to be able to create a smart group for all the computers that don't have the full cached file and resend the package out to those machines. Any thoughts?

Hello all, I have recently updated my JSS from 9.81 to 9.92, everything went well with the update but technically it is not updated... At my JSS front page I get this info: But at JDS Instances I have this: Casper Admin also says that I'm using 9.81 and not 9.92: What may be the issue here? Thanks in advance.

Version 9.92 I have smart groups that belong in policies. Say the smart group holds 67 computers. If I go to the policy and check the logs, the default view is to see 10 computers at a time. The logs should show the result of either complete/pending for that policy. 20 of the 67 have completed the policy, while 47 are pending. But I don't see the full list of computers UNLESS i display 100 computer entries per screen. first/prev/1/2/3/4/5/6/7/next/last if I have it set to show 10 computer records per screen I get1 - shows 1-10 computer records2 - shows 11-203 - shows 21-304 - shows 31-385 - shows blank' computer records6 - shows 'blank'7 - shows 'blank' if I have it set to show 25 computer records per screen I get1 - shows 1-25 computer records2 - shows 26-42 computer records3 - shows blank' computer records if I have it set to show 50 computer records per screen I get 1 - shows 1-50 computer records2 - shows 'blank' computer records if I have it set to show 100 co

Hi There, I have a re-wrapped version of Terminal Notifier that i wish to use to notify end user of policies etc.. I have a collection of scripts that work locally as the user as when as root from the terminal (via su). But they seem to either hang or fail with a syntax error when run by Casper. Any pointers? Examples below: #!/bin/sh loggedInUser=`/bin/ls -l /dev/console | /usr/bin/awk '{ print $3 }'` if [[ $loggedInUser != root ]]; then echo "User $loggedInUser is logged in..." # Display alert to the user su "$loggedInUser" -c `/usr/local/bin/Company Alerts.app/Contents/MacOS/terminal-notifier -title "Updates Are Awaiting Install" -message "These updates will be installed when you next logout, restart or shutdown" -groupid updates` else echo "No User logged in..." fi

I copied (select line 1 to last line 678 and copy) the dockutil.py from here https://github.com/kcrawford/dockutil/blob/master/scripts/dockutil put it in textwrangler, called int dockutil.py and placed it in /usr/local/bin (El Capitan), dragged it into Composer and made a .pkg. (did i need to change any permissions before dragging it into composer?) made a policy to install it. It was placed correctly on a test computermade a #/bin/sh to include my dockutil add/remove/move dock items code the policy runs to change the dock items, and i get Script result: /Library/Application Support/JAMF/tmp/LabDock.sh: line 19: /usr/local/bin/dockutil.py: Permission denied /Library/Application Support/JAMF/tmp/LabDock.sh: line 20: /usr/local/bin/dockutil.py: Permission denied /Library/Application Support/JAMF/tmp/LabDock.sh: line 21: /usr/local/bin/dockutil.py: Permission denied /Library/Application Support/JAMF/tmp/LabDock.sh: line 22: /usr/local/bin/dockutil.py: Permission denied

We are beginning to contemplate purchasing Casper Suite. Documentation states JSS can be installed on either Windows Server or Mac OSX. My question is, what would the community recommend? Our enterprise server group is Windows only (but setting up a Mac server is not out of the question for us), so who is running on Windows server and would you do it again?Advantages/disadvantages for each platform?

Fellow JAMFers, I have been trying to update my external JSS from v9.12 - 9.22 and am having some trouble. I was able to update the internal(Master) to v9.22 with no problems, everything worked just like all the updates in the past have. Once I tried to update our external server, I get this message repeatedly no matter what I try. external image link I have followed the advice of other threads on the forums with this issue but unfortunately none of the proposed resolutions have worked. I've removed Java entirely, and reinstalled JDK, JRE, and JCE to the exact same versions on our primary JSS but i keep getting the same error. It almost seems like it won't detect Java at all. So now I turn to the forums hoping maybe someone out there has experienced this before or might have any additional ideas? Thank you much Ricky

Just started to see this, upgraded a Macbook to newest El Capitan version (10.11.4) and no configuration profiles are being installed. Am using JSS 9.81, and am doing two things; a cert delivery and an AD Cert request. Any one else on 10.11.4 seeing this? Julian

I am new to the Casper Suite and JSS and was finally able to start testing it at my work. I've been doing a lot of reading and trying to learn as much as possible on the suite and JSS but I realize it's easy to get lost and was hoping I could get some advice or some tips from you guys. Here's the current setup. Mac/Windows Environment. Bound to AD and Smartcard Enforced (no user passwords). Managed with Absolute. DS makes the images and OS X Server hosts the NetBoot for our team. Centrify is installed on the Macs but is only good for logging in and getting Kerberos tickets for outlook and Lync. Everything else we have to use a VM. Testing goal: Setup Casper and the JSS for a handful of machines that are all on the same network, same office and pretty much one cubical over from each other. That way I can make slim images and use the JSS to distribute apps that are needed. (I would love to get away from Centrify and binding with AD for Macs and just use profiles to make it compliant)

Hi everyone, I used to be able to have options for "User and Location" under "Mobile Device Names" but it's gone. Thoughts?

Hi all Can anyone recommend a way to get the server address from Outlook 2011 ? I can see the server address is stored in a binary file here ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/Main Identity/Data Records/Exchange Accounts/0T/0B/0M/0K/x09_104.olk14ExAccount but i'm not 100% sure that location is constant on all the Macs and i also haven't found a way yet to extract the server address as it's a binary and grep doesn't seem to play well with it. any other ways to skin this poor cat ?

Hello, Is there a new incarnation of JAMF's very own "disableAirport.sh" script? I can't seem to get the drivers/extensions to move into the JAMF directory. Not sure if its the SIP protection in El Capitan or something similar but Would someone point me to a script that could be run to TURN off / DISABLE airport almost permanently in a lab iMac Environment, and prevent handy students from turning it back on? Thanks for what is worth, below is the copy of the error once the script runs. Actions from policy log: Executing Policy Disable AirPort Wireless in Public Areas Running script disableAirPort_Labs.sh... Script exit code: 1 Script result: Disabling the Airport Drivers on target volume /... mv: rename //System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext to //Library/Application Support/JAMF/DisabledExtensions/IO80211Family.kext: Operation not permitted Error running script: return code was 1.

Anyone know where one can download the Word & Excel 15.23.1 update pkgs from Microsoft? The official kb page points to 15.23.0. LinkID=799195kb 3165798

Hello,I'm new to JAMF Server imaging setup so please forgive me if my question is too basic or is a duplicate. We currently have 1 main JSS in a central site with 3 Mac Minis set up as NetInstall and File Share Distribution Points on 3 different subnets/sites.I cannot netboot more than 10 clients at a time for imaging. The 10 I do image work just fine. I have seen older articles/discussions about having to modify rc.netboot settings to allow more than 10 clients to netboot? Does anyone know if this is required with new setups? Is it possible to have 2 different instances of Self service, ex one for High School and one for k-6?

We are enrolled in DEP and have a pre-stage set which gets us to the Configuration Available prompt. However, when clicking Next we get an error stating "Unable to configure your mac an error occurred while obtaining automatic configuration settings." Our JSS does not have an IP externally accessible outside of our network. Is this the likely cause or could it be something else? We need an external IP for GSX integration anyway so it is in the cards but I want to know where to focus my attention.

Now that 15.14.0 is out, anyone know how to suppress these dialog boxes?

So, we have a situation where our print queue names have changed. Pushing out the new queues and drivers is easy enough, but in the past the printers were often installed manually so the names vary from computer to computer. The queues themselves are the same though. I found this script: lpstat -p | cut -d' ' -f2 | grep mcx | xargs -I{} lpadmin -x {} here courtesy of sam.clark, but my scripting abilities don't go far beyond poorly cobbling things together I find on the internet. Can anyone tell me the best way to modify this, or perhaps a better option to remove a printer based on the path itself rather than the name? Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to build an Advanced Computer Search so I can save it and delegate some work. Long story short, I can't get wildcards to work with Advanced Computer Searches at all. If I use an asterisk for Application Title, I get nothing at all. However if I use a wildcard (asterisk) for simple searches it works. It's the Advanced Computer Searches that aren't working with wildcards. This returns every app, as expected. This returns nothing. Am I out of luck? I even tried to RTFM! ;-)

Hello all, We've recently imported our production JSS database into our developer JSS. When importing the database, of course all the computer objects are also transferred across. Is there a quick way of deleting all the computers in the JSS rather than having to remove them one by one? Our organisation has close to 800 Macs being managed. Cheers, Ron.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to preconfigure settings for a third-party, non-Enterprise app? I have a couple of assessment apps I'd like to preset the URL for (STAR) or state (SBAC). thanks, chris

I have a policy that installs software via recurring check-in. When a user is logged in and recurring check-in happens, the software installs fine, dock item added and application is accessible. If no user is logged in at the time recurring check-in occurs the JSS shows the policy ran and everything installed. Afterwards I login and the applications dock item is a ? and the application is not in the Application folder. Note on the policy; the policy is a pkg that places files in a /private location and runs a post install script to unzip and install. Has anyone encountered something similar. on another note the policy works fine via Self Service.
