Global Protect VPN-Client 5.1.7 and Jamf Now Plus

Hello There

I'm new here and in Jamf (Now Plus). Till now, we installed each Mac manually.

I have to deploy Paloaltos Global Protect 5.1.7 VPN Client and run in some problems. I've found some posts for Jamf Pro and tried to adapt it with iMazing Profile Editor. But I've got always the same effect. No difference between "trying to install without  a profile" or with a profile (https://knowledgebase.paloaltonetworks.com/KCSArticleDetail?id=kA14u000000HAW8).

The system is trying to install Global Protect on the Mac (Big Sur), it writes data in the Install.log, the GP-Icon is very shortly viewed in the Application Folder, and right after this (1-2 seconds), GlobalProtect is deinstalling itself. And well... no idea why 😞

I've even tried it with deactivated Gatekeeper. The Profile seems to be correctly installed on the Mac.

Has anyone a hint? Switching to Jamf Pro is not an option 😞

Thank you and regards

Petra

Hey Petra,

Few thoughts -

  • It looks like the Mac is receiving and installing the package command being sent from Jamf Now. You mentioned install.log having logs written to it as well. Does the Install.log have any errors that would indicate why installation failed?
  • What kind of Macs are we deploying this package + profile to? Are they M1 Macs? If so, does this application require Rosetta 2? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211861
  • Are there any post install scripts included in this package that may be moving the GlobalProtect.app to a different location post installation? Using tools like Composer or Suspicious Package will allow for you to view a package and its components:

    https://docs.jamf.com/composer/10.28.0/user-guide/index.html

These are just some starting thoughts. If you happen to still experience issues after considering the information above, feel free to reach out to support@jamfnow.com and we can dig further into the deployment issues experienced.

Hello Chaz

Thank you very much for your answer 😄 Well, think then it's perhaps best, to write to support, because I'm definitely not familiar with scripting 😞 unfortunately...

- The Install.log will be overwritten in the same second, the App-File disappear in Applicationfolder. I tried to make a screenshot, but no chance 😞 it's to fast. It overwrites the log with "Install system extensions after installation".

- It's a MacBook Pro 16" 2019 Intel

I've opened the package with SuspiciousPackages (thanks for this link 🙂 ) and it shows me several scripts. Three of them are named as postinstall-scripts.

Hi Petra

I am facing the same issue, did you happen to ever get the install working?
