Maybe not:
Update: Apple appears to also be offering a special build for the new Early 2011 MacBook Pro, specifically addressing FaceTime performance issues, graphics stability, and external display compatibility.

Uh, I wouldn't be sure about that until/unless you've tested it.

Took a 10.6.6 image, applied the 10.6.7 update seed to it, and it would NOT boot a MacBook Pro Early 2011.

Also, in watching my SUS download the updates, I see this separate updater being downloaded:

MacOSXUpd10.6.7forMacBookProEarly2011.pkg

(There isn't a separate updater available for download from http://support.apple.com/downloads at least not yet)

So, looks like the 10.6.7 for the new machines may be different than the otherwise-Universal 10.6.7. I have no clue if hacking the preflight script for the Thunderbolt-specific package would install the relevant drivers or not, but this bears further investigation...

Yep, I posted too quickly. There is definitely a separate 10.6.7 for the new Mac Book Pros.

10J869 vs 10J3250.

Guess we wait till 10.6.8.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in my experience, you can not apply an update incorrectly*. That is, for example, you cannot apply a "server" version system update to an iMac or Macbook pro. Likewise, if the newer "early 2011" Macbook Pro's have their own update, you should not be able to apply the standard 10.6.7 update to them. This was the case when Apple came out with the new version Mac Mini's. They had their own update. I mistakenly tried to apply a downloaded standard combo update to it and it came back with an error saying it need it's own update. I accomplished this by letting software update on the new mini identify the correct update. So, the new Macbook Pro's have their own update. This is not a terrible issue. Just Apple trying to accommodate all the new gear while addressing the fixes of the older gear. Pretty standard for Apple. Not a deal killer and certainly not a reason for "waiting for 10.6.8).

*(You can apply a correct update that blows up in your face, however....)

Just my opinion.....

Roy

Well, if you're trying to build a 10.6.7 image that boots all machines, it may be a big deal. I haven't tried booting a non-Early 2011 MacBook Pro with the customized build of 10.6.6/10.6.7 that either comes with it, or results from Software Update. My guess is that special build has not been fully QA'd on non-Early 2011 MacBook Pro hardware.

Past precedent with Apple has been that the next major update "re-unifies" the OS so that a "stock" 10.6.7 boots everything. That's not the case with this update, and it does provide headaches for those who image machines...

Ok... I do image machines. And, I have different images for different uses. While I do not happen to have very many new Macbook Pros (which seem to be the only issue here), if I did, I would just create a new system OS(the special MBPRO) to insert into my Casper Admin list, and build the Macbook Pros, with that plus the usual set of software. It should work just fine. I do it all the time. Just saying.....

Hello,
I was wondering if 10.6.7 "Combo" good for ALL models, including new MBPs ?
Unfortunately I don't have one to test yet.

More important, has anyone already experienced any issue with 10.6.7 and
Casper Suite/JSS (server and client side)?

Many thanks for your help!

Nope, it is not, and that's what we've been discussing in this thread:

Thank you Robert for the clarification, I thought the difference was only
in having two "delta"...

One nice feature of 10.6.7: a single URL for SUS for 10.4/10.5/10.6 clients:

Interesting...

With a MBP (the model before the unibody) with an image made on the new
10.6.6 MBPs, Software Update doesn't see a 10.6.7 update for it, as if it
wasn't intended for it. This box is not pointing to an internal SUS either.

Well, time to blow it up with a manual download! =D
