Hey Everyone,

We will be hosting a CCA course first week of November. I honestly don't know the details, but if any of you come down I know all the good taco joints and cheap beer places :-)

Awesome. I just did my CCA last week. Miles was great. Didn't learn a ton but I did learn a few really critical things I didn't know that have been helping me out a lot. Plus networking with a bunch of other local JAMF users is fun!

Is CCA a lab/course only or is there an exam too?

there's an exam on the last day. it's basically a timed, hands-on drill.

I took my first CCA back in 2007 or 2008 I am recertifying. It is a 4 day hands on lab type course with a final exam at the end. The exam is just a list of things you need to complete in Casper and then you are certified, so it is not like a formal test. Unless it has changed because I got certified back in version 5

Basically, the instructor treated us like a contractor. Gave us a list of requirements and hardware. You have 2 hours to basically complete the job. Its not super hard, very realistic, and if you use Casper daily should have no problem. I got half wrong because I made a typical JSS mistake and didn't click the save button. DOH!

We're hosting the Milwaukee one October 25-28 ;). Similar offer stands if anyone from the list will be attending.

I took CCA courses (and passed the exams) in 2009 and again this year. PThe second time through was useful as the product has grown (MDM et. al.), plus it allowed me to play with/practice/reinforce knowledge of the components (Casper Imaging, Casper Remote, et. al.) that I rarely use...

Is there any way to get CCA without paying (relatively) big $$ for it? My employer would never consider paying for a cert, or paying me any more just because I have one...

I am gonna quote Heinlein here..."Ain't no such thing as a free lunch," but if you look into hosting a public CCA course you probably get some sort of kick back. Sorry I don't have any answers I am just a Systems Administrator, I don't deal with cutting any checks to anyone, thankfully.

The biggest benefit for me is not learning how to use Casper itself, I got that part down it is learning all the new features and learning best practices. When I first went to the CCA course I had been using and running Casper for 1 year. When I went and did the training they used a lot of my work as examples for people that were new, but they also pointed out my bad habits.

I can't imagine anyone involved would go for that. Visitors here have to go through a metal detector just to enter the building. Unless you're talking about hosting it at my house...?

I'm not looking for a free lunch, necessarily, but as it stands I would get no benefit from getting this cert, certainly not anything worth the hefty price tag. I would like to be able to say I'm certified, but that alone is not worth it, if I won't get any more pay.

The only benefit from the Cert for me is the ability to get paid more at work and contract on the side helping people setup Casper systems.
