I am new to the Casper suit and wanted to know if it was ok to create my base OS image with the Apple disk utility application or do I have to use the Casper Composer application to do this.
If you are supposed to use Composer what are the advantages to using Composer instead of Disk Utility.

I use Apples utility to create both my base os image and my netboot image and it works like a champ.

The one upside to Composer is that it will omit certain machine specific system files that we used to write scripts to remove just prior to baking an image. Have a look at Preferences in Composer.

Agreed. Composer will generally create a more efficient image for you to distribute. However, if you prefer to do it by hand then go right ahead.
