One of the few things I loathe with Mountain Lion is that update notification from SW-update and the AppStore dock icon that appears when there are updates available.
Is there any way to remove it or disable it?

I guess you could set the App Store in Software Update only mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5391?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) & then disable software update schedule:
softwareupdate --schedule off
But that could cause more problems, especially if you use them. Are your users admin?
You could also just remove the icon from the dock?

Thanks!
I want to run it with policies instead so that's exactly what I wanted! I'm going to give it a try and see how it works.

Cool.
Please post back the results & mark as answered if it was.
Handy for person 2+ whom will have this issue. :)

My users are admins now but we're going to get new machines fairly soon then I'll just revoke the admin rights. How come?
That probably also explains why there has been some weird patterns with the SW updates, I had a policy set for SW-updates on fridays but some machines wanted to update at other times. I didn't really get that it might have to do with me not turning off the schedule, which sounds like a logical thing to do!
