Education iOS one to one deployment support models - thoughts, advice, questions

As more educational institutions look at one to one iOS deployments, I'd love to hear thoughts from people who already have experience doing this. Of particular interest to me are the following:

  1. What does your support model look like in terms of personnel and how are support duties delegated?
  2. How are your Casper iOS duties delegated? Do teachers/professors have Casper Access and if so, how do they use it?
  3. Are teachers using Configurator and/or Casper and managing their students' devices, or is that done by IT staff?
  4. At a school with 500 students and 500 iOS devices, what kind of technical support is needed? Would you have a full time employee at that school who is just dedicated to supporting technology? Does that support person need to be physically stationed at the school?

I greatly appreciate any feedback that anybody has to offer.

I live near Burlington, MA where two years ago they went ahead with a 1:1 iPad project. The principal has done a ton of writing of the pluses and minuses of how it was done.
