So I know we identified the mysterious error 'The downloaded package could
not be verified' as being related to the HTTP distribution flag on our
distribution points. However, was a solution ever found for how to enable
HTTP distribution for Self Service using existing packages? I looked thru
the manual and didn't see anything.

Dustin had recommended off-list to make sure FEU and FET were not checked
and to index the package. I tried that and it still is not working, so if
anyone else knows how to get Self Service to deploy packages, short of
re-creating the packages, let me know.
Thanks.

I just wanted to post back what the fix was to this issue, since it seems
most may not know this, or if they did they didn't suggest it (Rich Dagel
was close on this and did suggest it, sort of).
You have to make sure that there is a symbolic link in Apache for the share.
--missing content--
This can be done by launching the JSS Setup Utility then highlighting
Http
Downloads for each distribution point and pressing the Start Apache
button You will also want to click the Create Link button to ensu
re that
a symlink is setup for HTTP Downloads
Hope that helps someone else

Hi All,
Just as an addition to this I had a similar issue with this error, turned
out that I had performance cache enabled on Apache which redirects web
listings to port 16080 and breaks Casper HTTP distribution.
Disabled Perf Cache and the distributions started working again.
As to Steves comment hope this also helps people out.
Regards,
Chris

Sorry to bring this post back from the dead, but we are running into this issue as well. We installed a caching appliance into the network and are now getting the mentioned error (Error: The downloaded package could not be verified) with every install. I have tried adding our Casper http server to the bypass list of the caching appliance, but we are still getting this error. For now we have just turned off HTTP distribution, but wondering what other solution there is for this.
