imaging/re-imaging..

We're currently looking at how our base images (OS, Software Updates) are being created due to the problem we're having ensuring all pertinent drivers are included for any given model. Up to this point, I've been installing the official releases to a non-booted volume and layering global installers such as the combo updaters onto it and taking an OS snapshot in Composer. Historically, the combo updaters have included the all of the newest drivers. I'd really like to avoid creating images for different models since this seems like a step backwards but Apple appears to release hardware-specific installers when using Recovery mode. I was wonder how or if everyone else is maintaining a single image. Is this even possible anymore?

If you're using 10.7 or 10.8 simply re-download the installer from the Mac App Store, this typically includes all of the newest updates. Sometimes it can take a little while for them to get it updated, however you'll know if you compare the build numbers.
