Jamf Pro / Jamf Connect expiration - what to expect

Hi,

We are transitioning 250 or so users out of Jamf Pro / Jamf Connect. We have an upcoming license expiration, so trying to get all users out before expiration. Renewing the license wasn't an option as we'd only be doing so for a small number of users and the minimum possible duration of renewal is 6 months.

Can anyone provide details on what happens when the license expires? I've seen mention of a 2 week grace period and a 30 day period. Will device be unmanaged or left in the state they were in at the time of license expiration? Just want to ensure we fully manage expectations.

With all due respect to licensing, we aren't looking to short Jamf of licensing $. It's simply that we are moving into another product at the decision of our leadership on a short timeframe.

Might be worth talking to your Jamf rep or support person.

Thanks, we can do a support request. The sales rep wouldn't budge on anything less than a 6 month renewal. We would not have an issue with paying for a month. 6 months would be unused.

Jamf won't shut down Jamf Pro immediately upon license expiration, but don't expect to have access to it for long. You need to figure out your exit plan, and what MDM you are going to, now.

For Jamf Connect, users will start to get notifications the license is expiring. Once you let it expire Jamf Connect will drop down to a trail mode and stop onboarding new accounts and stop syncing credentials for existing accounts. However, existing user accounts on a device will still be able to log in.

Jamf Connect impacts to expect:

  • New users will not be able to log in to devices.
  • Existing users accounts will stop having their PW synced with your IDP.

Generally when migrating from one MDM to another, you want to reinstall macOS as the manual way to migrate devices requires significant hands on interaction and cannot be automated.
