Hi,
We are trying to configure it so that computers enrolled in our company Jamf have their screens locked after 5 mins of idling. As far as I know, the way to do this is by starting a screen saver after 5 mins of idling and then forcing a passcode to unlock the computer.
Is there no way to lock the screens without starting a screen saver?
Thanks

@diso47 Have you tried setting a time for the display to turn off using an Energy Saver payload?

@sdagley I have not tried that. It sounds like this solution is the same as the one with the screen saver, just that this is an energy saver payload instead. My issue is that I want all the enrolled computers to be locked after 5 min of idling. And to not have the computers first start a screen saver or energy saver.
Correct me if I am wrong :)
Is there some other way perhaps, I have thought of uploading a script and triggering it with a policy. The script should include commands for locking the computer screen. But I am not sure.

You will have to enable either the screensaver or for the display to turn off after 5 minutes of idle time, along with the configuration to require the password to unlock the screen. There isn't really another way to do it. Is there some reason you don't want to do that, or are looking to do this some other way?

Thanks for the answer, how do I make the screen turn off instead of using the screensaver? The reason is basically if there is some way to lock the screen directly it would be preferable.

@diso47 You can still require that the user has to enter a password to unlock the Mac after the screen is turned off. Turning off the screen is the normal way to lock the Mac without starting a screen saver.

How do I enable the energy saver instead of screen saver? Is it in the same settings area?

@diso47 There is an Energy Saver payload available when creating a Configuration Profile
