M3 OOBE and no wifi networks available

Hi all,

I don't think this is related to Jamf per se but I am still looking for feedback.

We recently updated our stock to use various M3 models. On first connect with previous wodels, we would be greeted by the basic "language selection", then the screen to connect to a wifi network, then the SSO login using O365 logins.

With the M3s, after the langauge selection screen, the wifi icon shows wifi is activated but there aren't any networks appearing an we get a message saying that "wifi networks aren't availabe "as if wifi is deactivated.

It sometimes works if we hard line it but so far the only 100 percent of the time solution is to reimage the machine.

This is going to be an issue since we want to start direct shipping these things to employees who request them when onboarding or changing laptops.

Has anybody come across something similar?

@djohnston If you turn Wi-Fi off and back on again does the available Wi-Fi network list then appear?

I haven't seen the behavior you describe when running through Setup Assistant on M3 Macs, but I do often run into a blank list of Wi-Fi networks when clicking on the Wi-Fi icon on the Activation screen that appears after using Erase All Contents and Settings to wipe a Mac. Clicking the Wi-Fi menu icon again, or turning Wi-Fi off and back on again, will result in the list of available networks appearing.

I'd also ask what version of macOS is installed on the Macs exhibiting this problem?

Hiya,

Yes , I did try that and nothing happens. It’s a 1 in about 5 occurrence.

What’s odd is that wifi works fine in safe mode and recovery.

If I run into it again I will grab a screenshot and put it in the discussion.
