Mavericks is forked.

The new Retina 13 and 15 models ship with a post-GM build number. I have NOT confirmed whether the GM OS is sufficient for these models (only that the build number is different).

That would be expected behavior. Typically apple releases a retail version, then any hardware that ships after the fact has a custom build until the next retail release.

My team has confirmed that the 13" will not boot with the 13A603 image, you need the 13A2301 or whatever version it is. The 15" has a different build version its not in our hands yet.

Yeah, it might be "expected" and "typical" but that doesn't mean it makes a lick of sense. They released Mavericks on the same day they announced the new hardware. Is it really that much to expect that whatever special drivers or OS level stuff that's needed for the new models be rolled into the public release of the OS, since, you know, its from the same company and released the same day? Yeah, I guess that's really asking too much of them.

Well, in this case it may not be much of an issue since my guess/hope is the newer build should work on older hardware, but that will need to be tested and verified. Oh Apple.... how you vex us!

has anybody confirmed that they require 10.9? can 10.8 work on them?

Our new 15" rMBPs are 13A3017, and won't boot with 13A603 either.

ditto @mm2270 - As for expected behavior I expect it when hardware is released AFTER the OS. It was released on the same day. I get wanting to hide any hints of new hardware in the developer builds, but Apple did update GM from 598 to 603 right before the release without telling anyone. Would have been nice if that would have included some unified goodies.

We're just IT folks in a consumer world :)

@jwojda - Our up-to-date 10.8.5 image doesn't boot for either 15" configuration. We had to grab the hardware specific build of mavericks (13A3017)

@Shaffer - thank you! DIdn't expect it to work, but figured i'd ask.

@mm2270 Haha, about as much sense as "Golden Master 2" like 48 hours before release that introduced a host of new behavior and the absolute overload of Notifications?

I also got a 13" Retina (Late 2013) that had a build of Mavericks, 13A2093, just to add to the confusion ( as opposed to build 12A2301 mentioned by nessts above)

i may have mistyped.2093 is correct. sorry
