Sometimes the user come with configuration profiles deleted while the MDM profiles still installed. When we enter WiFi password (another one from the one in profile) the configuration profiles are picked up by the iPad. We are just wondering that how come the configuration profiles are slipped from the ipad in the presence of MDM profile. The MDM and Configuration profiles are bind by the department name in jss which is synced to AD and there is no department set for the users in AD.

That sounds similar to the behavior we see with D-006681 (related/duplicate defect: D-006797); what happens is, devices that are scoped to a smart group based on LDAP location information (in this case, department name), and we have “Collect user and location information from LDAP” checked under one or both of the following:
Settings >> Computer Management >> Inventory Collection
Settings >> Mobile Device Management >> Inventory Collection
we see that the device fall out of, then back into any smart groups on inventory submission.
This can be quite a big problem if we have our wifi profile scoped out using a configuration profile and a smart group based on LDAP location information, as the devices will lose the wifi profile then be unable to connect to get the profiles back.
D-006681 is listed as having been fixed in 9.31. Page 18 of http://resources.jamfsoftware.com/documents/products/documentation/Casper-Suite-9.31-Release-Notes.p... mentions it.
If your JSS is not yet on 9.31 yet, updating to 9.31 should take care of the problem.
If you’re already on 9.31 and are still seeing the issue, please get in touch with your Technical Account Manager either via e-mailing support@jamfsoftware.com, giving the support line (or your Technical Account Manager’s direct line) a call, or by opening a case through My Support on JAMF Nation so we can dig into it a bit deeper and figure out what’s going on.
Thanks!

Hi @amanda.wulff,
Thanks for the detailed reply. We have upgraded our jss to 9.31, so it is supposed to be the server side fix so we don't need to push the profiles again on the students ipad. If upgrade to 9.31 was the only fix so it is done.
Thanks,
Khurram.

Hi @khurram
If we’re not seeing the issue after the 9.31 update, that should be all that needs to be done.
It isn’t a retroactive fix, so any information that is incorrect may need to be manually fixed, but future check-ins and inventory updates should no longer cause the problem.
If the behavior is still happening even after the update, please get in contact with your Technical Account Manager so we can dig into it a bit further and find out what’s going on.
Thanks!
