Hi All,
MS 2011 Communicator v13.1 Update is now available via MS Updater only. If you are using OCS you can now share your desktop. Mac Client still doesn't give control, but can take control of the WinPCs. Perhaps next update will bring this function to Mac Client.
I have managed to package MS Communicator v13.1 Updater. There isn't a package to update from MS (only way to do this using MS AutoUpdate app). So I had to use Composer's New & Modified Snapshot method and proved to be working (in Composer I just kept the Communicator app on and removed the rest before making pkg).
I hope this helps.

Cem,
You can grab the .mpkg during the autoupdate process. It's located in ~/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/15089Communicator Update.mpkg. I was able to update Communicator via a login policy with the updater.
Thanks
Allen

Funny… That's exactly the same folder that Casper whacks when doing user cache cleanup. That was causing massive problems for our Entourage users as it would cause massive email duplication. Nice to see Microsoft uses the wrong folder for more than one of their products.

Curious about the issue you were seeing with Entourage. Microsoft may

Actually, ~/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems is where Entourage stores temp files that need to go from Microsoft to the Daemon or vice versa. If you whack that folder with Entourage running, you'll get database corruption. The latest patches of Entourage lock that folder (as opposed to using the proper, Apple spec folder) so that it can't be deleted while it's there.
We went as far as having a Microsoft dev from the MBU *on site* to figure this one out.

This is a nice Gem of knowledge.
Does anyone know if this carries over to Office 2011?

A very very cool gem of knowledge.. We've had tonnes of issues with e-mail duplication on Entourage EWS with Sophos.. We've added a load of exclusions but not this folder.. Will do tomorrow!

But I wouldn't think deleting caches while a user is logged in would be a
good idea either. What's the reason behind that? Network home folders?

As far as we can tell through our research, they're using the same file location, but it also has the file locking enabled so that Outlook doesn't go all squirrelly. Though, even in our testing of Outlook beta, we'd get the database errors but no duplication.
The best explanation that we got is that it's a piece of legacy code that's hardcoded for that file path. Of course, the best solution would be to move it to where the Apple spec says it belongs (/tmp). A file being put in Caches assumes that it's a location that can get flushed with no detrimental effect on your software. In Microsoft's case, it's *very* detrimental. To the point where our Exchange environment had mailboxes that were 10X larger than they really should have been because of all the duplicates that Entourage was causing.
All because we were being good IT boys and girls and flushing user caches once a week (as part of weekly maintenance) to prevent support calls. Go figure.

Wow, I've been reading this thread and shaking my head. Looks like Microsoft veered off on a tangent with Entourage...
We have clients who won't even be ready to look at Outlook 2011 for months. So the tips/tricks in this thread are very helpful.
