I've created a package from Office 2011 (basically dragged the Office Installer into casper admin). I checked the 'This package must be installed to the boot volume at imaging time' box. When I image, everything starts out OK, but only about 33k of the office installer actually gets copied to /System/Library/StartupItems/FirstRun/Resources/Packages/. Anybody have any ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix it? We are using JSS 8.0 with 10.6.7.
Thanks!

Using the Apple Installer package from Microsoft does work. I do that here

What protocol do you use with your distribution server? I've heard from
other folks that HTTP is not the way to go if using Installer packages. We
use both AFP and SMB with success.

I also did new new + modified for the suite but have since added the SP1
update as a drag&drop at imaging time update and that works.
I also tested the command-line method below and it works as advertised.

Much, much better with Casper 8.1. They actually made http downloads be more reliable. I could never apply Microsoft .mpkg updaters with 8.0 and earlier - with 8.1 it just worked as it should.

We opted to do a new and modified snapshot in Composer and I pulled out all the /private and /User data that it collected. Left in everything in /Applications and /Library related to Microsoft.
We're deploying now through Self-Service with no issues.
