Repairing tables takes forever!

Hi all,

I had a broken database and I am running repair tables and it is taking forever (so far 2 hours). I wonder is this expected behaviour?

Here are the details:

MySQL db: 17GB
JSS v7.31
MacOS X Server 10.6.8

Regards

Cem

PS: I have tried to send it from my personal email to avoid long signature, but I keep getting you can not post blah blah…

Holy cow, 17GB? Yes, I'd expect 2+ hours... Take a look at your processes. If it's still going, mysqld should be going bonkers.

I have just over 1000 Macs.
Do you think 17gb too big? Compressed size is 2.3gb.
How many Macs do you have and what are the sizes of your compressed and uncompressed db? Just curious.

Also what processes do you mean?

We had something similar happen and it was because the ‘plugins’ table had grown to tens of millions of lines.

Every time a computer recon’d it thought every single plugin had been re-installed

Our database is 2gb with about 1500 computers –

Take a look at the size of each individual table and see if anything looks out of the ordinary.

My plugins table is also large...10GB or so out of 14. I think I'll turn them off, but am not sure of the best way to reduce its size.

Here I have the list of sizes of the tables (see attached). Do you guys
think anything looks odd here?
John when you say your db is 2GB is it compressed? Or actual size?

If we're comparing sizes, mines a 121MB…

Got rid of a lot of old policies that duplicated data the JSS just collects on its own, no fonts, no plug-ins, no unix, handful of scheduled tasks. I probably don't have anywhere near the number of policies some of you folks do. We try to keep it pretty simple around here.

How many Macs? Is it compressed or actual size?
I have never checked the box for Collect Plugins and Collect Unix
Executables. Recently I have switched off Gather iPhones and iPod Touches
and unchecked the box for Enable application usage monitoring (if we needed
I will switch it back on for a week or two to get the report)

I manually flush the Policy logs for some policies (I will need some policy
logs). As there isn't an option to do tis automagically yet (JSS 7.31).

I've only got 500 systems, I'm not a big outfit like some of the 1 to 1's. That's the compressed backup.

I'm pretty sure there was a way to flush logs automatically with that version of the JSS. I've been on 8 forever so I could be wrong there.

We have about 13000 devices, 6GB database, 700mb compressed.

Last time we had an onsite, we got rid of collecting a bunch of stuff we weren't using the data from; I think the plugins database was the biggest culprit. Before that, ours was getting to about 20Gb uncompressed.

I have 14,000 Macs in inventory now and I think our database is 14gigs
in size, but I am currently as we speak trimming it down

Hi David,
How did you managed to cleared the plugins? Through mysql command line
tool?
I guess the rest was to clear Extension Attributes, Deleting some policies
from JSS...etc

We cleared it out through mysql, and changed the collection settings in
the jss.

Good Afternoon Gents,

Have any of you successfully trimmed down your database size by removing the
Plug-ins data? If you have been able to do this, what was your approach to
removing this from the database. I have disabled collecting info on the
plug-ins, but the data is still there from a while back.

Thank you,
Kenneth Edgar
