Smart group logic examples?

I still can't really wrap my brain around the logic JSS requires for making smart groups. Are there examples available somewhere I can look through to get an idea of exactly how I'm supposed to enter the info?

One of the types of smart groups i'm trying to make is for all Macs that either don't have a program installed at all OR it has an older version of the program installed. Every time I try to make it, I try with and without parentheses, I try with AND and with OR and any combination thereof, but nothing works.
Here is one example of what I've tried:b69e31ff39ff4237856a401636d7a47a

What is wrong with the logic I'm using? Why does it require AND? AND in this case does not return the results I need. I've tried putting the parenthetical after the single criteria but it grays out OR.

I was able to get it working by doing the following. Give it a try and let me know if it works for youaa9d2f829b2e4714b1990a20ab1445ca

That worked. The only real difference is that you didn't use parentheses. I definitely need a guide for building the logic in these smart groups.

@AVmcclint the JSS user manual doesn't have much in the way of good examples of the logic used for building smart groups. I think this is an area where JAMF could use some improvement.
