When running a Casper Policy to install all available software updates, the policy fails to complete on new iMacs. When logging in to the computer, an icon for ATIFacelessFlash is on the Dock, but not responding. ATIFacelessFlash is the app that is supposed to install a firmware update for the iMacGraphicsUpdate 2.0 without need for a console. Apparently it is broken.
To complete the policy on these computers, login as an administrator and right-click on the ATIFacelessFlash icon in the Dock and Show in Finder - leave this Finder window open.
In Terminal, find and note process id for ATIFacelessFlash.app - there will be two instances. Do not kill the csh one that runs ATIFacelessFlash in the sandbox.
ps -ef | grep ATI
In Terminal kill the ATIFacelessFlash firmware update. This completes the policy, but since the policy calls for a reboot, a warning appears that a restart is scheduled in 5 minutes:
sudo kill <pid for ATIFacelessFlash.app>
Quickly (to beat the 5 minute reboot clock) re-run the ATIFacelessFlash.app by double clicking in Finder window from first step. When ATIFacelessFlash.app finishes (should be quick), restart the computer.
