unified 10.8.2 installer with late 2012 model support

hey gang, I believe I've successfully created a 10.8.2 installer that suports the late 2012 models and the older hardware as well. here's the procedure I followed:

  1. Download the current installesd.dmg from the app store
  2. Create a configuration in casper admin, add the installesd to the config
  3. Download the the Macbook Air/MacBook Pro 2.0 update from apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1609)
  4. Add the update to the config in casper admin and compile just those two items using a mid-2012 or earlier model machine. The compile will fail if done on a late 2012 model.
  5. Once admin finishes compiling the configuration, copy the compiled DMG from your casper distribution point and then delete the configuration you used in casper admin.
  6. Create a new configuration in casper admin, and add the compiled DMG to it. Make sure to set the priority on the compiled DMG to 1.
  7. Download the 10.8.2 update for late 2012 models from apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1603)
  8. Add the 10.8.2 update to the configuration in Casper Admin and compile the configuration on a late 2012 model machine. This will fail unless a late 2012 model is used.
  9. After the compilation finishes, grab your DMG from the compiled configurations directory on your DP and use it the basis for any images you want.

I've tested this on a 15" 2011 MBP, a 15" retina, and a 13" retina. The recovery HD works on each machine as well.
I'll be testing this on one of the late 2012 mini's as soon as our arrives later this week.

Nick, If you are ending up with 10.8.2 12C2034 - that's the build that will boot the new systems.

the 13" retina reports 12c2034, the 15" retina reports 12C3006. Those both match what I get if I manually upgrade them.
The 2011 model also reports 12c2034, even though a manually upgraded machine reports 12c60. No issues have yet appeared on the 2011 model despite the higher build number.

Did Apple pull the 10.8.2 update for late 2012 models?

I rebuilt a Mac mini Late 2012 last night using Internet Restore. The result was 10.8.1 (12B2080). Last night and today it's not offering any 10.8.2 update via command line or App Store. The download button on this page leads to a missing article error, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1603

Yep, looks like it was pulled. My Reposado server is showing the update as being deprecated. Guessing we'll see something in the next few days.

yep, both updates have been pulled, so there currently is no way to run 10.8.2 on the late 2012 models. Thanks apple!

@nkalister Today I looked up the meaning of arglebargle in Urban Dictionary. (Your original post made it to the email feed.) Now I have a new favorite word!

Since my post, I was able to find a lot of messages on Apple's discussion board about the disappearance of the 10.8.2 update for late 2012 models.
