I just checked my Lion disk. There is an "Install Xcode" application in /Applications. Inside the Contents > Resources folder is Xcode.mpkg. I don't know if that alone would suffice for installation. I know "mac app store" things tend to have license data associating them with the mac app store. I'm not versed on it so I can't detail any more than that.

You can download the "Install Xcode" once and then move that to any computer to run an install

Anyone tested this? I'm downloading the gargantuan xCode installer on Lion right now. Given that link I should be able to install this on other platforms right?

Xcode 4.0.2, the last to run on 10.6.x, can be downloaded from the Dev Member Center.

Xcode 4.1, which requires 10.7, must be downloaded from the store but then you can use that installer on other machines.

What OS are you planning on running xCode 4.1 on? I believe it requires Lion. 4.0.2 works on Snow Leopard and can be downloaded from:

Free if you're a paying registered developer...

I believe you can download if you're a free account developer as well. Apple's never charged for XCode. I know you can download it with a paid account from the Developer site

The link takes me to a page with $99 all over it. True, free for lion via the app store, but 4.99 for 10.6.x on the app store.

they were charging $4.99 for a brief time before the 10.7 release. now it's free again for anyone not a member of ADC.
