app not showing on jamf school

Hi

For some reason Power Apps isn't syncing to Jamf School when bought via Apple School Manager. Here's what I've done:

- despite having 50 available licenses left over from when we used to use Meraki, I have bought another 50 in the hope it kicked it in but it didn't

- bought a different app to test whether that worked and it did. Bought them via ASM and it immediately showed on Jamf.

I have heard it might take 24 hours to sometimes sync over, which is fine but the original 50 licences are a new purchase. They were bought on ASM like 2 years ago.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there,

The fact that a new test app synced immediately points to a specific issue with how Power Apps is being managed or recognized by Jamf School in your environment.

Let's break down the potential causes and troubleshooting steps:

Possible Reasons for the Sync Issue with Power Apps:

VPP Token Scope or Association:

Check Token Assignment: Ensure the VPP token in Jamf School that is connected to your ASM account has the correct scope and includes the location/organization where you purchased the Power Apps licenses. Sometimes, tokens can be limited to specific locations within ASM.1

Migrate content tokens to Apple School Manager

support.apple.com

Re-associate the Token: Even if the scope looks correct, try removing and re-adding the VPP token in Jamf School. This can sometimes refresh the connection and resolve syncing issues.
Specific App Configuration in ASM:

License Management: Double-check within your ASM account that the Power Apps licenses are indeed associated with the correct location(s) that your Jamf School VPP token is linked to.
Assignment Settings: Review if there are any specific assignment settings for Power Apps within ASM that might be preventing automatic syncing with your MDM.
Jamf School Specific Issues:

App Management Settings: Within Jamf School, navigate to the app management section and specifically look at the configuration for Power Apps. Ensure there aren't any filters or specific settings that might be excluding it from syncing.
Server Communication: While other apps are syncing, there could be a temporary glitch in the communication specifically for Power Apps. Restarting the Jamf School server (if you have on-premise) or contacting Jamf School support might be necessary.
Apple Business Manager (ABM) vs. Apple School Manager (ASM):

Although you mentioned ASM, double-check if your institution has transitioned to Apple Business Manager. While the functionalities overlap, there might be subtle differences in how licenses are managed and synced. Ensure your Jamf School is connected to the correct portal.
License Type Compatibility:

While less likely for standard apps, verify if Power Apps has any specific licensing requirements that might not be fully compatible with standard VPP distribution through ASM and Jamf School.
Potential Delay (Though Unlikely After This Time):

While you mentioned the 24-hour window, the fact that the test app synced immediately makes a simple delay less probable for the older licenses. However, it's worth keeping in mind that sometimes backend processes on Apple's or Jamf's side can experience temporary hiccups.
Troubleshooting Steps to Take:

Verify VPP Token Scope in Jamf School:

Go to Organization > Settings > VPP.
Click on your VPP token.
Ensure the associated locations match where your Power Apps licenses are in ASM.
Re-associate the VPP Token in Jamf School:

Go to Organization > Settings > VPP.
Click on your VPP token and then click Unlink.
Follow the prompts to re-link your ASM account and the VPP token.
Check Power Apps Licenses in Apple School Manager:

Log in to your Apple School Manager portal.
Navigate to Apps and Books.
Search for "Power Apps".
Verify the number of licenses and the locations they are assigned to. Ensure these locations are covered by your Jamf School VPP token.
Examine Jamf School App Management:

Go to Apps in Jamf School.
Search for "Power Apps".
If it's listed but not showing the correct license count, try clicking on it and then selecting Update App Information.
Consider Manual Assignment (Temporary Workaround):

As a temporary measure, can you manually assign the Power Apps licenses to devices or users within Jamf School? This might help identify if the issue is purely with the automatic syncing.

Best regards,

Terry
