Anti Virus For Xserver.

Not applicable

Just wanted to get some opinions about what Antivirus software any of you might be running on your xservers. For desktops and laptops we use McAfee on both windows and Mac, but that will not work on Xservers. I figured I'd see what the rest of the community was using.

Thanks,

Sean

Unfortunately some enterprise environments are on Symantec and contractual obligation mandate its use on servers.

Careful policy configuration can prevent problems, unfortunately this means disabling all background processes...like active scanning, scan on open/safe, scanning on mounted media...

Once SEP 12 is released for Mac, it'll be a complete re-write that is much less problematic (NDA forbits discussing much more)...

I agree though, Symantec Antivirus and Norton Antivirus stink. It'll just stink less later so it'll be easier to tolerate... ;)

None on my servers, but they also are not used to serve as user remote homes or file storage other than what I place on them.

I had this same issue come up a few months ago. We had SAV on our server but since our agreement with Symantec ended I was forced to remove it. Since then Our xServe has been without AV software. If I recall, everyone seemed to talk highly about Sophos.

If I were to I would use Sophos on my servers but I don't feel it's needed. Sophos works well for our workstations though.

Sophos is the best Mac AV I have seen that has enterprise support. I'd avoid Symatec like the plague. Those guys are clueless.

+1 for sophos. Plus I've had it on all xserves.

Trying to move current employer from mcaffee to Sophos atm.

Ben.

We are getting ready to start testing SEP12 also but I am extremely jaded. Symantec promised SEP11 would be better as well and it was utter garbage.
