A focused iPad can easily get away from the master iPad by resetting the iPad using power and home button together.
The funny part is that the master ipad remains under an impression that the device is still focused on that app. The least functionality we would like here is that the master iPad should be updated with the information that this iPad have lost the focus on the app.

+14I just learned that this happens when the student has a passcode set on their iPad. The actual profile that was sent to the student's iPad to put it into Single App mode is still installed, so Casper has no way of knowing this happened.
This is an Apple issue, and all concerned should submit a feature request to change this so that Guided Access, Lock to App (Configurator), and Single Access (MDM/Casper Focus) modes still work when the iPad has a passcode.
