So we purchased a few copies of FCP X, and theoretically if I needed to
distribute the app, rather than sign on to the boxes and manually
download the App, couldn't I take a test box and download to that, and
capture the download with Casper Imaging? How has everybody else been
doing it, google has pretty much been leading me to info that boils down
to apple is anti enterprise and therefore not very usefull.

1.Download the app on a "Master Computer" - DO NOT LAUNCH THE APP.
2.Composer
3.Push
The only problem is when there is an update, you have to do the same thing. The apps cannot be updated via software update.

No authorization needed. The reason you want to download on an ADMIN Mac is to prevent users from getting update prompts since the user would need (1) admin rights and (2) the Apple ID used to purchase that copy...and say bye bye to your patch management strategy. By using your ADMIN Mac to get the software, you suppress all the update prompts and its dependencies.

John,
How did you purchase multiple copies of FCPX? Did you use multiple Apple Ids? Did you put credit card information into each ID?

I signed on as root, logged into App Store, started composer and told it to start a new install, clicked download from the app store. Once complete I ran software update and patched the FCPX app. Then I stopped composer and saved out the file.

You get a volume purchase account and then distribute to each local machine.

What steps are you taking to update FCPX on the Macs you sent it to? Can you delete the App install history and have it reinstall?
Thanks,
Mike
