I am creating on mid 2012 Mac book pro. Followed the instructions from Apple and Jamf to create. Creating the .dmg on 10.9.2 , copied to machine with server 10.9.2 but it will not recognize the mounted drive as a source. help!

hey...no worries, we're here to help. There are a couple threads about this on here but try this one:

It seems making a disk image and naming the boot drive "Netboot", usually does the trick. But check that thread out and see if there are any solutions that help you. You should be able to find something.

There is no reason to create a DMG first and then use System Image Utility (SIU). Nor do you have to use 10.9.2 Server to run System Image Utility. If you have two machines that are the same model, you can boot the one you setup to image (the mid 2012 MBP in your case @CSHGreenwich) in Target Disk Mode (http://goo.gl/gpMyK), connect to the other computer, and then run SIU from /System/Library/CoreServices. You can then create the NetBoot Image (NBI) and copy that to your server.
The link that @perrycj gave has some great info, and in there is my description of how I create a new NBI anytime I need to. I've had 99% success using that method, and in fact, just did this to create a new NBI of 10.9.2 last week.

I just connected my mb 2012 to the mac running server 10.9.2 and it sees the drive is creating a net boot image now.
Hopefully it worked.I also went back and renamed the drive on the original system.. Thank You. Such quick responses!

I tried it both ways and it works both ways. I wanted it to work from the .dmg because Casper cleans the image. Thank you the link is extremely helpful.
