If I have users on macOS 14 Sonoma, can I push macOS 15 to them via software update within JAMF?

@salle  You can use the new Software Updates feature of Jamf Pro to force an upgrade to macOS 15.0. If you are asking if you can use Jamf Pro to call the macOS softwareupdate tool to upgrade the answer to that is no. If you just want your users to be able to initiate the macOS 15.0 update the best way for them to do that is via System Settings -> General -> Software Update which will offer then the delta updater to macOS 15.0, and that's typically half the download size of the full macOS 15.0 installer.

There is not really a difference between the deploying macOS 14.7 and 15.0 as far as Jamf is concerned. When you issue the Software Update Command, the only real difference is the version number specified in the XML which is what the Mac queues up to install.

  • Latest version based on device eligibility - This will install whatever the newest OS the device supports.
  • Latest Major Version - This will update to macOS 15.0 as that is the most recent.
  • Latest Minor Version - This will update to 14.7 (or whatever the latest minor version is for the base OS installed on the device).
  • Specific Version - Lets you pick what goes out.
  • Note, if you have OS updates deferred that deferral will still apply.
