I would like input as to how others are managing their volume purchase codes in Casper for iPad apps.
Using self service, we have been running into an issue were the redemption code gets assigned to the enrolled mobile device in Casper, however the redemption code will indicate that it has already been used on the iPad and not install the app. In order to clear the code from the Casper mobile device list you end up clearing the information for the entire list of already recorded mobile devices.
I do not see a way of editing the mobile device application list without clearing the previously recorded information tracking the other mobile devices that have redeemed codes.
Suggestions?

The work around is to re-upload the VPP codes from a freshly downloaded file. This way you don't lose your previous data, but it will clear out any Apps that weren't actually redeemed. I have a call in to JAMF. They say they are working on it but it is very frustrating. Also make sure the user quits all Apps before they try again after you have completed this process.

The reason this happens is because the iOS Self Service application is unaware of what happens after you click the Install button and it passes a VPP code to the App Store app on the device. It has no way of knowing if the redemption was successful, if the user cancelled out of it or whatever. Its essentially a middle man that is blind to what happens after the hand off. So, it records (an assumption) that a redemption took place for a given code in the JSS, but that is not always the case.
I'm not sure if there's an easy fix for this other than somehow getting the App Store to report back to the JSS once a redemption is actually successful. I'm not sure that's possible though.
