This is a question about the installer command. I am trying to install a vendor's .pkg by placing it in /tmp and using a postflight script to install it. (The software is Tivoli Endpoint Manager aka BigFix Agent.) The installer command in the postflight is working, but it's not setting the permissions for the app to be allowed by everyone. When double-clicking on the pkg, there is a point in the GUI that prompts to select to "Install for all users of this computer". Via the Installer command, Is there a way to ensure that is enabled?

We have two servers one for casper and one for netboot casper is at 1gb/s and the netboot server is currently at 100mbps We are getting ready to image 600+ machines at the school when we imaged 30 at once only 7 got into the netboot and started imaging I checked the activity of the netboot server and we are maxing out 100mbps I am going to upgrade it to 1GB/s today is there any other suggestions or how other people have done this? For some reason a policy we are running is failing because a script doesn't appear to be present to JSS (it's there; it's executible): /usr/sbin/jamf is version 8.62 Executing Policy DM_set_HostName_using_ComputerName... Creating directory structure for /Library/Application Support/JAMF/Downloads/ Downloading http://server.domain.com:80/CasperShare/Scripts/xx-set-hostname.sh... Error running script: The script could not be found on the server.. I constantly have to mkdir the Scripts folder and scp all the scripts, then to be safe I have to chown and chmod the scripts. I only noticed this recently when I went to check if our hostname setting script was working...the red error entries in the Logs page for this policy all point to one server (a replica). Any idea what might be causing replication to complete without the Scripts folder being replicated? TIA Don

My site is using Casper 8.61, and we have two types of computers that come through. Loaners, which should be imaged automatically, and client machines, which should log in but not image automatically. I've created two PreStage rules. One based on mac address, for the loaners, is set up to image the loaners automatically. The other is based on network segment, which selects our image for client machines but does not automatically image, as we have other parameters to select before we image. Long story short, the network segment rule is preferred over the mac address rule, even though the mac address rule is more "specific". Is there any way of choosing which PreStage is selected when a machine matches multiple rules? Thanks.

We've run into an issue with local homes for our Student lab users which affects the dock shortcut to their network home and mobile account sync. We are using JAMF Casper to deploy and manage OS X 10.7 Lion, Active Directory for authentication and Samba shares. We've got AD configured with:Force local home directory on startup disk - CHECKUse UNC path from Active Directory to derive network home location - CHECK So the problem is that although we have managed preferences configured via Casper, I'd also like to be able to sync preferences through mobile accounts. Ideally we would sync preferences and bookmarks at login and logout. When I configure AD with "Create mobile account at login", the sync has been failing with a message similar to "Unable to sync home directory at (null)" . Like the subject says folks I am looking for a nice reboot script that pops up and says its doing something then reboots the computer. Our users are students ranging from JR high to High School and facility. They do not reboot their computer and come in and ask us why is this not working? I want to have something in Self Service that they can run for example "techfixit" and the computer reboots thoughts does anyone else do something like this? We are also having problems with printers pausing maybe this can be integrated into the script that unpauses the printer the users do not have permission to unpauses a printer and for some reason gets paused. Hi All, I have a interesting issue where we have to set and keep the brightness setting of a set of photography iMac's. I have to set the luminance of the screen to 120 so as to make the iMac's confirm to some working ISO standard for photographers, which the users cannot change! Does anyone have any idea what plist/value i need to set to achieve this? I have been looking online for 2 days straight now and still have had no luck finding any help. Help!

We've basically done the following: Purchased a volume licence for Final Cut Pro X and received a batch of license codes. Redeemed a code on one machine associated with one Apple ID, then packaged and deployed the software to faculty/students. Now, there's an update available. As I understand it we need to re-download the updated Final Cut Pro X app with the original Apple ID then re-package and re-deploy. This is pretty straightforward (albeit kind of annoying, but thats another discussion). The problem we're having is that our faculty/students are seeing an update for Final Cut Pro X in the Mac App Store on their machines.. I was able to get my smart group created, but unfortunately when I manually run the policy to my test group, I am met with the following return in terminal... My method of getting the package into the Casper repository was just dropping the .PKG I extracted from the .DMG off of Oracle's Java website. I'm trying to mount a users Active Directory home drive and DFS share's when a user logs into Lion or Mountain Lion. The home drive mapping was easy to do. A simple change in the Directory Utility "Use UNC path from Active Directory to derive network home location". I can successfully mount the DFS share from the finder "Go, Connect to Server" using kerberos. I found the "mountNetworkShare.sh" script in the Resource kit and have modified it I believe with the correct settings. As we don't currently have JSS setup I was hoping to start testing the mounts and give it out to select staff to use daily before our JSS environment is setup. I've tried running the script as a loginhook but nothing happens when I login. Is there a better way to run this script at login?Is there a log file I can check to see what's happening when the script is executed or indeed to ensure that the script is being executed?

In 10.7 does anyone know where the number of desktops you have is located? I mean I disabled mission control about a month ago but some students had already 50+ desktops, now it is disabled but they still have every desktop that they created and they can't delete them. I have teachers asking can they be deleted so they have one desktop and fullscreen apps but I can't find that anywhere? I would like to either just delete that preference file or use profiles or MCX to fix that... Anyone know where that is located? Tried using composer and a few other tricks I know by just adding desktops and such then see what changes and well nothing does or that I can find. Thanks

I scoured the forum, couldn't find anything. I would like to have a policy that upon reboot into mountain lion, having a smart group show that file vault is not enabled, run the enable file vault policy, so the next time they restart it starts encrypting. Is this possible?

When I run the 8.62 QuickAdd package on about 8 Snow Leopard machines I get the following error: The installation failed. The following installation step failed: run postflight script for QuickAdd. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. It adds an entry to the JSS with an IP address, Hardware UDID, and Mac address, but no other information. I tried removing the JSS entry and running the "sudo jamf removeFramework" on the machine and trying to install the QuickAdd package again but got the same result. Please Help!

JSSv8.62 running currently across 2 Ubuntu Server VM's. The connection to the JSS is being made over SMB. A 10GB image takes about 2 hours or so to complete. Would appreciate any tips for tweaking the configuration. Thanks in advance

I am new to Mac and Jamf. When our MacBooks were imaged the Spotlight stopped working. I found the problem is i need to remove a file from the root named .metedata_never_index and restart the indexer I am attempting to wright a script to use with the self service portal. If they have the problem they can just run it from there.Script#!/bin/sh#sudo rm /.metedata_never_indexsudo mdutil -i on /Script end I think i need to run this as root, this is why i used sudo command but it asks for password and if i run it from self service it dose not prompt me for password. I have a hidden account on all the mac's named tech that is an admin account, can i use that account to run under or can i just have the user be prompted for there password. Is this the best way to do this?

We capture images of all our computers and macs before we image them with our custom image, however it seems that the .AppleSetupDone file in /var/db is either being injected some how or being remembered and not erased. The first time I image a computer that has not had the apple setup completed, its fine, but if i complete the Apple setup and then reimage it with the same factory image it goes straight to the log on screen even tho the partitions have been deleted and the disk erased. Anyone had this or manage to figure out what is going on? Surely if the disk is erased then it should erase everything and not leave anything behind?

I currently have an OS base install of 10.7 setup on an external hard drive. Will composer be able to build the OS image with the Recovery Partition, or must this be done separately? I am aware that I may need to mount the recovery partition. Thanks in advance!

Ok so I downloaded the latest flas, mounted the dmg, extracted the real pkg and put that in my work flow. Now after the build and logging in a pop up OS box comes up to say it is out of date and it has been disabled! What's going on? It IS the latest flash!

I am currently using a sym link to link /Users to a separate partition /Volumes/UserData/Users however, I understand that this is not the preferred method since some 3rd parties don't correctly follow a symlink.Please give me some feedback on the preferred method to redirect /Users to a separate partition, at imaging time. I am trying to find out how often the IP information of a machine is updated. Is it only when it phones home? Is it when we run an inventory? Is it both? We are trying to run recon on several machines and trying to connect with them seems to be a bit of hit and miss since we only have the last reported IP.
