According to what I have read so far, Activation Lock Bypass Code is supposed to allow you to use the itunes, to remove the activation lock, through entering the Activation Lock Bypass Code into the password field, instead of the user's username and password? Apparently it can also be used with DEP institutions, (which I am not one of).
Has anyone had any success with this? I have attempted to do so in the past, and had no luck success.
I am wondering if this is a feature that Apple have turned off, due to security reasons.

I have used it in our environment and it is working correctly. However, we have seen an issue with may of our devices not correctly being identified. There is a fix and will be out in a future release.

We used this just yesterday. iTunes is not required. Just erase the device. It will eventually prompt your for an Apple ID and password. Leave the ID field blank an enter the code for the password.
