AutoCasperNBI

Hello.

After updating to Casper Suite 9.8.1 I cannot Netboot anymore. I get a kernel panic stating that there was NFS Failure and unable to mount NFS server. JAMF support recommended I just create a new Netinstall with AutoCasperNBI from MacMule.

I have tried creating a new Netinstall and it errors out. I have tried with Casper Suite 9.8.1, 9.8, and even back to 9.7.3

Its a 10.10.5 OS image and I'm running Server OS X.

Any direction would be great. Here is what the logs say for each attempt.

So its trying to copy from the OS DMG to the new Netboot image and failing. This normal works ok for me, although there are a couple of things to note:

• There was a new bug / feature with 10.11 that stopped AutoCasperNBI from working related to the ditto command. The app has been updated to resolve this so you need to make sure you're running the very latest release of AutoCasperNBI
• I normally use an AutoDMG created source OS image. Not sure how you created yours but if you haven't already, try AutoDMG for the base OS
• There is a version mismatch between the JSS and the copy of Casper imaging. It wouldn't cause this problem, but you will have other imaging related issues once you're past this point so I would recommend making sure the JSS and all Casper Suite apps are on exactly the same version to avoid problems. The JAMF documentation does say there is some flexibility in this, but I don't see the benefit in taking the risk. Just go for 9.81 across the board.

1st up, as @davidacland says.. the source OS.dmg is really important. A clean OS.dmg is really recommended, as per this.

2nd, you're on the latest version.. BUT I was supposed to remove 10.8 support as some functions on pre-10.9 have been flaky. (I've created an issue for that here. I can see you're running on 10.8.5, (but using the as time of this post latest 1.3.0).

Can you try the above & please log anymore issues here.

Looks like it's still failing at the same point. I'd test creating another read/write disk image, mounting that and the autodmg image and using CP to copy the data between the two. If that fails there will be something else at play.

@ghobes Can you try on 10.9+? Also, the OS.dmg has the same name? is this the same OS.dmg you used at the beginning or a new one? Lastly, are you running any Anti-Virus?

@davidacland this is not a SIP issue, client is running 10.8.5 & OS.dmg is 10.10.5.. Plus.. dittoing a whole volume is ok.. it's MOUNTING that & then dittoing from that causes the issues.

@bentoms Not wanting to thread hijack but not wanting to open another hoping I can get some assistance here. Been using your brilliant tool from basically inception and never had an issue. Thank You! Until now....;-)

We haven't updated our JSS to 9.81 yet for various reasons we are on 9.72. I have created an new NBI using v1.3.0. and when I create this on a 10.11.1 system using an AutoDMG created 10.11.1 OS it doesn't pick up the JSS URL. Works fine creating it on a 10.10.5 using same base OS. However when I boot into the system CI quits when I hit "image". Error log tells me * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'URL Connection Error', reason: 'Connection failure: "The operation couldn’t be completed. ( error 401.)"'

I imagine this is an issue with running a non supported 10.11 JSS?? Just wanting to confirm, is JSS 9.81 the pre-requisite for creating a 10.11.1 Base / NBI?
