For those of you still using instaDMG there is a new replacement called autoDMG. It automatically updates its self and catalogs every time you open it or to whatever interval you choose in preferences. It is as easy as it can be. You drop the OS.app on to the app and drop any PKG files in as well and it will let you know if any core apps have updates and present a download button. Click build and out comes a DMG image.

thank you, I gave it a whirl and it worked perfectly. added some static packages and updates to it quickly and easily. Deployed without issue on the test boxes.

I built a dmg using AutoDMG 1.2 that included the Mavericks installer, plus current 10.9 updates, along with MS Office 11.3.9 update pkg. When I uploaded it with Casper Admin 9.21 and clicked "Item is a DMG with an OS X Installer..."
Casper Admin reported back, "The DMG does not have a valid OS X Installer"
What am I missing?
Thanks! Corbin

if you used AutoDMG you do not need to check that its an installer, its ready to deploy, set its priority to 1 and use it.

Anybody tried an image with the new 10.9.1?
It didn't pick up the iBooks update, iTunes 11.1.3, or ARD371 Client. I found installers for iTunes and ARD Client, but not iBooks. Just curious if it doesn't pick those up, would it know what to do with the forked images that we had to do the internet recovery to get for the 2013 hardware?
....
EDIT:
I just re-ran it, and it found all the updates. nevermind

I just stumbled on AutoDMG and it is saving me A LOT of time. I love it. One thing I have run into that I cannot figure out is adding pkgs. I have created two .pkgs for user admin accounts for our environment. It will install the first pkg but not the second. No error messages that I can see. I created the user account pkgs from CreateUserPkg 1.2.4.dmg. I am using AutoDMG version 1.2.1 (194). Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi @jyoung,
You can attempt the same via Casper Admin.
As per: http://macmule.com/2014/03/06/how-to-create-an-never-booted-os-dmg-using-casper-admin/

check the log that autodmg provides? see if there is help in there on why the package may not be working for you.
depending upon the size of the packages your including its also worth noting that the script AutoDMG uses to create the image is hardcoded to create a 32Gb image. so if your install heaps of content, you might be filling up the image. there is a script in the app bundle where you can find this 32gb and change it to what ever you need ie 64 etc etc

I am new to Casper and could use some pointers here:
I have AutoDMG set up and tested/verified it all works correctly by manually deploying vis disk utility, but when I try to build an configuration in Casper, when I attempt to deploy with Casper Imaging, I see the block copy happening, but on reboot I get the blinking ? and when I examine partitions they are empty.
I am obviously missing a step here somewhere... If one might point me to the correct documentation...

@donparfet, Did you ensure your disk image is set to priority 1?
Posted on 08-18-2014 05:25 AM
@powellbc][/url yes the disk image is set to priority 1
I went back this morning and recreated my configuration from scratch and it worked. Maybe it was the coffee...
