List Serve Going Away

Todd,

The list serve will be going away at the end of the month, this based on a
reply by Jake Mosey on one of the discussions. The archives of this list
should be imported into the new JAMF Nation website. Perhaps Jake can
confirm again.

Please go to http://www.jamfnation.com and create an account as this will
be the place all of this stuff will happen, although I think you're
already on that...

You can still elect to subscribe to all of the discussions and feature
requests so you get an email blast like I do.

oh I have the acct, I just think its a terrible idea. I suppose I can go
check settings and see if I can make jamfnation email me, I just hate
having to login to a webpage to do this stuff. mail is up and running
already, I guess I am just an old goat that does not want to change.

No, you're not alone here, I feel the same way. The most effective tool is
one that's in your face and comes to you, but that's why I set my JAMF
Nation account to email me about everything. Granted, I still have to go
to the website to post a reply, but at least there is a link in the emails
to go right where I need to.

I put in a feature request yesterday specifically asking to allow me to
reply to an email to post a comment back to that JAMF Nation thread since
I'm not always in front of my computer, but I'd like to reply on my iPhone
easily. The website isn't so much fun on the iPhone either.

I complimented Jake and Zach on their efforts with the site and email

support for discussion threads. Since setting up my account I don't feel
that I've missed anything with the JAMF Nation mailings. If I want to
reply then, yes, I have to log in but it's not inconvenient.

I have my email client set to filter messages to a folder and then keep
messages in that folder for 60 days before automatically deleting them.
That allows me to read the thread without having to visit the site very
often.

Grumble here too!

I like the immediacy of the list.. & put in a feature request for a iPhone app/more friendly site.

Main reason I'm not so active on the forum is I find it a bit of a faff on the iPhone.

(maybe they wanted to silence us 3).

Anywho, time we move with the time's I guess!

Regards,

Ben.

Hmm... Yes, Android. I think I've heard of that.

Isn't android the one with all the spyware and viruses?

IMO the best smart phone of the 4 I have is the DroidX, then iPhone3S, and
tied for last and pretty much horrible to use are the pre and the HTC
windows mobile phone that I used before the pre.

I just picked up an iPhone 4S, so far I am loving it. I notice if the signal is weak though location services goes nuts and the phone gets hot.

You know, I was really trying to bite me tongue when that Android request
came through. But I see that others are making up for that. =D

Every Android I've used I want to smash. My iPhone 4 just WORKS.

So off topic now. Love it!

I'm not a fan of the list. It may be more immediate, but it's also not easily organized. There's lots of duplication, "me too!" replies with endless piles of irrelevant email sigs attached, and off topic noise. I think (hope) a forum will also reduce wheel reinvention, too. Supplement it with irc or some other group chat if immediacy is a priority for some people.

Also, stay off my lawn!

Mailing lists are a historical part of the culture of communities like
ours, seems a shame.

By the way, I'm very much enjoying the conversation here.

That was a fun list...as active as the JAMF list is today...

I thought I would throw my grumble in here as well. Responding to this post
in particular.

I love the new Third-Party pages etc. at JAMF nation but saying email is
not very well organized just means you are doing it wrong.

lol :)

I subscribe to many, many mailing lists with this gmail account. I get near
to 1000 messages a day and guess how many hit my inbox? 5-10

Messages are automatically filtered, labeled, categorized, and deleted
based on all sorts of criteria that take mere moments to setup.

If you belong to one of the "big boy" lists like NANOG or MACENTERPRISE and
your vacation auto-responder replies to the list I never see anything you
write ever again...what could be better than that? :) :D

lol

I do enjoy the stickiness of the Up votes etc. and I am excited for more
people to join us in these conversations but to complain that text is
un-organized is your fault.
