OT: Entourage Web Services

Hi guys,

We've been migrating people to Exchange 2007 & as such, we've been moving them to Entourage Web Services (EWS).

We're using the latest version, BUT seems that quite a few of our users need to flush their cache every 2-3 days..

Is this similar to what you've seen?Grey Communications Group Limited

Yes, we've been dealing with that issue for a while. I had a feeling it was related to Exchange 2007 Rollup 4 that we applied for functionality with Apple Mail in Snow Leopard, since our issue started happening after that. Have you applied Rollup 4 or this happening for some other reason?

Why? Does Entourage stop syncing email, calendars, or both?

Do you have a single Exchange server, or a cluster? Do you know what patch level/revision you're at on Exchange? If a cluster, all machines should be at the same version. Ask your Exchange administrator to verify where you're at, on each server if clustered, and if there are any hotfixes/updates they haven't applied.

My "is this happening for some other reason" question was kinda dumb. Obviously you don't know why it's happening. Neither do I. We have a single Exchange server with current patches (I think - I'll double-check with our Exchange admin), and our users' calendars aren't synching and mail will not be delivered for days at a time until they empty their cache (but in OWA and their mobile devices all their e-mail is delivered just fine).

No problem...

To be honest, it's happening across various machines with various folders failing to sync (address book & calendar included)...

Our exchange admin is on Sophos training at the moment, but when he's back I'll have a chat.. luckily he's very helpful.

Thanks for giving me a starting point.. I'll let you know how I get on.

We have a major open issue with Microsoft regarding Entourage. We’re seeing users with message/calendar item duplications into the hundreds of thousands and it’s exploding mailbox sizes. We at first thought it was a McAfee issue with it locking up the local database file preventing Entourage from writing to it and when it finally can, tossing a whole bunch of cached writes into the database resulting in duplications.

But, last week we found a few machines actively duplicating without any trace of McAfee on them.

So, we’re hammering Microsoft.

Is this users with large exchange 2003 mailboxes on entourage 2008?

If so, we had the same.. seems to be an issue with Entourages truth database.. the solution was to leave all mac guys on entourage 2004.. until entourage web services & our migration till 2007.

Which, by in large, seems to have been a good move.. except the odd cache issues as mentioned.. although emptying the cache on ews with exchange 2007 is fast.

Exchange 2007 rollup 4. Entourage 2008 (EWS or non-EWS)

After reading this thread, I just want to be sure everyone is talking about
Entourage for Exchange Web Services. Correct?

And the problem for everyone in this situation is that users are having to
routinely (every few days at least) empty their caches to restart syncing.
Is this also correct?

Finally, this affects multiple users at a company, not just one or two?

I'll be glad to pass this along to my contacts at Microsoft so long as we're
identifying a "widespread" issue affecting several users at several
organizations. Please reply to me privately with an affirmative if you're
seeing this happen in your environment.

Also, don't forget that Entourage EWS has logging support built in. You can
enable it in Entourage's Preferences. This may shed some light onto what's
happening.
