Quick Self Service Install Scoping Question

Getting ramped up with our initial Self Service setup. Want to prevent users who already have X software from seeing X software's installer in Self Service. Is the only way to do this to setup unique smart groups for each and ever preinstalled software title, then limit policy to that smart group? This could get tedious when looking to hide SS installers from our preinstalled software set from our image from showing as available to install from Self Service.

I know I can prevent it from installing more than once via the 1x per computer option, but this assumes the user installed from SS (versus having already preinstalled from our image/before enrollment).

Honestly, I've only ever gone the scoping Smart Group route for this issue.
