After JSS v8.2 JSS Utility.app discontinued. This is due to multi platform
support.
Any of you want the JSS Utility back with multi platform support?
Then please vote if you wish your voice to be heard. Just reply as +1
I will send the results to Jamf as feature request (please don't hijack
this one, with other feature request ideas)
Cheers
Cem

This is one application we definitely need the GUI for, with our staff spread around the world with varying degrees of expertise...gotta have that GUI.

Meh, I wouldn't mind more command line functionality though.

What do you need that utility for that you can do in a few seconds by hand?
The only thing that utility did for us is cause issues. Much better having full control and doing it by hand.
Don't need a pretty gui to set up a rsync, or reset some permissions.

I'd only want the JSS Setup Utility back if it worked with JSSes on OS X Server, Windows 2008 Server, and some specific varieties of Linux (RH et. al.)
If it wasn't completely cross-platform, I'd rather JAMF not spend the resources reinventing it...

I'm still using the 8.1 version, just to be able to quickly fix permissions, which I usually have to do whenever I add packages into Casper before they will work.

I wouldn't mind if they published a KB article with all the functions that the JSS Setup Utility had… and the Command line equivalents.
The fact that it just disappeared with little documentation was annoying.

I agree, I am going to +1 this... Don't miss the GUI just miss the little extras the GUI had
Posted on 10-25-2011 07:06 AM
I'm going to +1 this as well.
Just wondering -- Is there any reason some of that functionality (scheduling backups and replication, fixing share permissions) couldn't be rolled into the JSS's web interface?

Database backup is still able to be scheduled, but not through the web.
It's located at /Library/JSS/bin/JSSDatabaseUtil.jar
+1 me though for the scheduled replication of the distribution points! I
miss that. Just noticed today (two weeks after the upgrade) that things
aren't auto-replicating at 3am. Grrrrrr....
